Editing video captions

Modified on Wed, 2 Jul at 9:59 AM

Subtitles come in different file types depending on where and how they will be used. SRT files can be used for videos that are downloaded and played locally on a PC. VTT files, on the other hand, are used when a video is played in a web browser—for example, in Imageshop’s video player or via a permalink. So when you’re editing subtitles, be aware of how the video will be used and which type of subtitle file you need to edit.

How to edit subtitles for a video in Imageshop:

1. Download the file. In admin, find the video. Click on “Versions.” Here you’ll see the different versions of the video file and the subtitle files. Click the download button to download the subtitle file.

2. Open the file in Notepad. You can use other editing tools, but we recommend Notepad or a similarly simple text editor.

3. Edit the text. It’s very important that you only edit the actual text and not the numbers, timing information, or spaces. Edit ONLY the text itself.

4. Upload the file. Upload the edited file to the video as a new version.

5. Select the subtitle language. Click the edit icon and choose the language for the subtitle.

6. Delete the old subtitle. To avoid having two subtitles in the same language, you need to delete the old subtitle. Click “Delete.”
